A personal note from Dan

I have always loved working with wood. As a child I admired the handiwork of my grandfather, a hobbyist woodcarver. I will always remember how he worked hard to finish a surprise box for me the week before he passed away.

My dad was always fixing or fabricating something at home or at his workplace. But even on limited resources, he aimed to do things right the first time rather just make a band-aid that came with a headache of fixing it later. He was a wealth of knowledge to me.

For many years, my family and I worked in Southeast Asia and it was there that I learned the importance of relationship building and valuing perspectives that differ from my own. Once, we took on a large remodeling project in our own home and I interfaced with a team of 15 brick layers, carpenters and framers for nearly nine months in a language that was still new to me. When someone died in their village, the whole crew would not show up for the day.

Patience, understanding and flexibility are vital to successful cross-cultural living.

These experiences, among many others, have significantly shaped who I am today and my approach towards business:

1. Clear communication is key. It is important for me to always be a learner, ask questions and seek to understand what the speaker is trying to communicate.

2. Every person is important to me, regardless of their education, background or belief. I do not view people as tools to use or opportunities to profit from at their expense.

3. Do the right thing, regardless of who I’m doing the work for or even if no else sees it.

As a handyman professional, I believe it is important to take the time to understand your concerns and find solutions. I also want you to feel comfortable with me while working in your home or place of business. You can expect that I and anyone else on my team will be polite, courteous and professional.
